Juventus vice president comments on Allegri’s position amid Conte links

Amidst reports linking Antonio Conte with a return to Juventus, the Serie A club’s vice-president Pavel Nedved has said that Massimiliano Allegri has the full backing of the Bianconeri hierarchy.

Reports from Italy over the last couple of months have suggested that the 53-year-old could complete a sensational return to the Allianz Stadium at the end of the season.

The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (28/10/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) was the latest to report on the matter, claiming a few days ago that Conte is Juve’s number one target to replace Allegri at the end of the season.

The report asserted that one of the reasons the Italian has not extended his deal with Spurs is that he is eyeing a return to his former club. Gazzetta remarked that Conte has a ‘very strong bond’ with Juventus and ‘would hardly say no’ to the job if it was offered to him.

However, Nedved has now insisted that everyone at Juve continues to have full faith in Allegri.

He told DAZN: “Always the same idea about the coach, it remains what we have always said. Allegri has full confidence in the whole environment.

“It is normal when you do not achieve results as Juve should have names come out. But I think there will still be many. We want give everyone the opportunity to do their job well.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do think Conte is committed to the Tottenham job and I don’t think he would be particularly tempted by the idea of returning to the Serie A for the time being.

However, the Italian could well use Juve’s interest in him as a bargaining chip to potentially demand major backing from the Spurs hierarchy next summer. So, perhaps he will not be in a hurry to sign a new contract.
