Kane explains Spurs can mount title challenge this season

Tottenham have had a solid pre-season campaign so far with victories over Juventus, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich. Harry Kane is confident that the team can keep their form going into the season and mount a serious title challenge.

The Lilywhites finished well below Manchester City and Liverpool last season but the England captain seemed confident that they will be able to close that gap this time out.

When asked if Tottenham can challenge for the title, Kane told the Evening Standard: “I think so – we’re in a good place. As a team, we’ve learnt a lot over the last few years.

“A lot of us have been playing with each other now for a long time.”

Kane and the other Tottenham stars suffered massive heartbreak at the end of last season as they came close to being crowned European champions, only to fall at the final hurdle.

However, the Spurs striker insisted that the experience of getting to the final will hold the team in good stead for the coming season.

He insisted that the players know how consistent they will have to perform in order to match last season’s top two.

He added: “Of course, we know it’ll be tough because the teams around us in the Premier League and Champions League are so good.

“The fact that we got to the final in the Champions League last year will only give us confidence in the Premier League, because we know we can beat the big teams.

“Consistency is a key thing. It’s the one thing we’ve been missing over the last two or three years: spells where you go two or three months without losing and just build momentum. You go from there. That’s our aim.

“Of course everyone starts the season saying they’re in a good place and they want to win but it’s down to us to do the talking on the pitch, starting next Saturday.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Moving back home after playing almost two full seasons at Wembley will be a massive factor for Tottenham this season. However, if Tottenham are to push Manchester City and Liverpool for the title, then believe they need to add at least a couple of more top players to their squad before the end of the transfer window.
