‘Kane is making them worse’ – Pundit offers Tottenham solution to goal struggles

Frank McAvennie has suggested that Tottenham should look to sign another striker in January amidst Harry Kane’s poor run of form this season.

Kane, 28, has struggled to hit any sort of meaningful form for Spurs since undergoing a summer full of transfer speculation linking him with a big-money move to Manchester City.

He has tallied just two goals in 14 Premier League appearances and has looked a shadow of the player who swept both the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards last term.

However, Kane is the only recognised senior striker at Spurs and has little competition for his spot to push him on, which McAvennie believes has been partly to blame for his poor performances.

As such, he feels Spurs need to make a new addition up front in January in the hope of getting the England captain firing again.

Speaking before Kane’s goal against Liverpool, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I didn’t think we would be at Christmas and Kane still wouldn’t be scoring.

“I really don’t know what to say. He’s has been incredible for three or four years and now he can’t score to save his life.

“Good players go through bad spells. But is a world-class player going through an awful spell. Everyone said the goals would come but they haven’t. That has to be a major concern for Spurs.

“It’s just not happening for him and Tottenham are really suffering. Kane is making them worse, in my opinion. This is why they need another striker. If your main man isn’t doing it, you replace him.

“Tottenham can’t do that. If they want any kind of success they need another quality, proven striker at the club.”

Kane’s form can be down to a few factors, and him being the only senior striker at the club certainly will not have been doing him any favours on the competition front. January is usually a tough time to complete deals, but hopefully the club will look to make an addition to strengthen Conte’s squad.
