Kane lacks pace believes Sherwood

Tim Sherwood has told talkSPORT he believes Harry Kane would be playing for another club if he possessed the pace of Arsenal transfer target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Kane became our all-time leading Premier League goal scorer last weekend after a double against Everton to take his tally to 98 goals from 138 appearances.

In doing so the 24-year-old leapfrogged Teddy Sheringham in the scoring charts, who enjoyed a stellar career despite his apparent lack of pace with Spurs and Manchester United.

Spurs North London rivals Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang before the close of the transfer window and the article says Sherwood believes Kane would be commanding the interest of Europe’s biggest clubs if he possessed the pace of his future north London rival.

“Everyone is always looking for a weakness in Harry Kane but they can’t find it,” Sherwood told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show.
“If you’re looking for a weakness – he’s not as quick as [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang – but he hasn’t got a lot of stuff that Harry Kane has.

Sherwood added: “If Harry Kane had speed I don’t know where he’d be. But he probably wouldn’t be playing for Tottenham at the moment.Everyone would absolutely break the bank. We’re talking about £500,000-a-week [for Alexis Sanchez] – Kane would be a lot more than that.

Sherwood went on to say “He’s not slow and he’s improving himself all the time because that’s what the boy’s like. He thinks he can still improve and he’s mentally very strong – and he’s certainly got quicker. He is a very good athlete. But I’d put him in a race with quite a few centre forwards whose pace doesn’t get spoken about.

“His movement is fantastic and he does it at the right times. He recognises the players in his team who can find him and he doesn’t waste his energy with runs when others have the ball.”
