Keane bullish ahead of Arsenal clash

Robbie Keane has stoked the fires ahead of the North London derby with Arsenal, claiming Spurs “are no longer afraid” of their rivals.

The Tottenham skipper also insisted that Redknapp has a better squad available to him than Arsene Wenger.

Spurs brought a few players from the fringes into the first team line-up for the Carling Cup victory over Everton and Keane is sure that Spurs are now as close as they’ve been to their bitter rivals.

He told the Evening Standard, “You look at the two squads and we’re definitely on a par.

“In the last four or five years, Arsenal always managed to get ahead of us, but if you look now, it is even.

“It will be judged at the end of the season, but if you look at the bench we have, it is probably a little bit stronger than their bench.

“The mentality around the club in previous seasons was that we would be happy to finish fifth, or qualify for the UEFA Cup, but there is a different feeling now. The players have the feeling that we want to get into the Champions League.

“You can take away Saturday’s game, because anything can happen in a North London Derby, but we need to be judging ourselves against teams like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea over the season.

It’s still early days, but we’re in the top four now, so it’s important we stay where we are. If we can get to Christmas still around there, we’d certainly have every chance.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Is your squad/bench better/deeper than ours??

best XI (almunia, sagna, gallas, verm, clichy, song, cesc, nasri, arshavin, rvp, walcott) ALL INTERNATIONALS OTHER THAN GK.

    Fabianski (international)
    Gibbs (u21 international)
    Traore (u21 international)
    senderos (international)
    djourou (international)
    eboue (international)

    rosicky (international)
    denilson (u20 international)
    diaby (international)
    wilshere (u21 international)
    merida (u21 international)
    ramsey (international)

    eduardo (international)
    bendtner (international)
    vela (international)

And that doesn’t include our all conquering youth side that won everything last year.

  2. Keane has too high opinion of his own ability. He hit the woodwork, and missed a penalty. He is at the moment Spurs’
no.3 striker.A little time on the bench might bring down his
over inflated opinion of himself.I understand why Harry did it,
but I think it would have been best to leave him at Liverpool.

  3. I do not understand why bloody spurs fans are hating on Keane. Its been over a year since he went to Liverpool and people are still bringing that up all the time. Keane is our captain weather us spurs fans like it or not so stop hating on him. I think spurs are closer to Arsenal this year and our bench is stronger than Arsenal- Arsenal should just go somewhere, no1 cares about them apart from their annoying fans! The derby on Saturday will be a good 1 to watch! Hopefully spurs will win!!!
