‘Keep an eye on’ – Fabrizio Romano reveals Spurs decision on midfield target

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, but claims they have already made a decision about signing the Frenchman.

Lyon have reportedly been open to selling the 23-year-old throughout the summer, and it has been previously reported that the Ligue 1 side would be willing to accept a fee around the £25 million mark.

Italian journalist Romano has now revealed that Spurs have been given the opportunity to claim Aouar’s signature this summer, but they have opted against doing so.

Spurs reportedly do not view Aouar as an imminent priority for Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad, while talks or a formal bid remain distant ‘as of now’. However, he went on to say that fans should keep their eye on the Lyon man.

Romano also added that Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal have been involved in a potential opportunity to sign the midfielder, but he did not reveal the Gunners’ stance on the matter.

Aouar is an interesting player that could fill the creative void that Spurs have lacked since Christian Eriksen’s exit from the club in 2020.

But it appears as if director Fabio Paratici is focusing his attention elsewhere on other targets, as Aouar has currently been placed on the back-burner. We could see a potential return to the midfielder as the transfer deadline approaches, though.
