‘Keep an eye on’ – Journalist suggests PL team could target Harry Kane

Journalist David Ornstein has suggested there is a small chance Harry Kane could be tempted by a move to Manchester United, and thinks Tottenham’s Premier League rivals might target the England captain.

The rumours surrounding Harry Kane’s future just won’t quit, as talks over a new contract for the 29-year-old are still yet to officially begin.

Kane’s current deal expires in 2024 and the hope around the club is that he will sign a new deal in the coming months. It is thought that Kane’s decision to agree to any such deal will depend largely on whether Antonio Conte commits to a new contract (Football Insider).

With Manchester City presumably done shopping for strikers now, it has been Bayern Munich who have been most strongly linked with snapping up Kane (TZ).

According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham remain calm about the Kane situation and believe he is open to talking about a new deal when the time is right.

For David Ornstein though, there is a possibility that other Premier League clubs may smell blood in the water. Speaking on The Five Insider, Ornstein highlighted Manchester United as a possible destination for Kane.

Ornstein said: “One I guess to keep an eye on for us, and I’m not suggesting anything is brewing, is Harry Kane. United have long-been reported admirers of him and credited with an interest.”

“Kane is under contract until 2024 and there hasn’t been much suggestion of a new deal. Tentative reports here and there, but after that move to Man City never materialised, rumours of Bayern, would United make a play at that?

“We’ve been told at various times that if Tottenham are challenging for trophies then that would be to Kane’s liking.

“He wants to succeed with Tottenham, and if that were the situation maybe a new contract would come about, but if you get to the point where Tottenham are at the same level they’ve been at in recent years then maybe he would leave as a free agent or maybe Levy would be more open to sanctioning a departure that will secure him a return if he’s not going to sign a new contract.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This season is crucial in terms of Harry Kane’s future. If Spurs can finish in the top four again and Conte commits, it’s likely Kane will follow suit and stick around.

If not, and if a team like Manchester United were to finish in the top four instead, you have to worry that a move up North could be appealing.

Kane will want to stay in the country and stay in the Premier League, with that all-time scorer record in his sights. Let’s just hope this season goes to plan and then we won’t have to worry about that record being broken with Kane wearing another team’s shirt.
