‘Keep your eye out for him’ – Journalist picks 18-year-old Spurs starlet as one to watch out for

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold was asked in a Q and A this week which Spurs youngsters he thought had the best chance of breaking into the first-team and his answer might surprise a few of the North London faithful.

Spurs have an exciting crop of youngsters coming through the academy ranks and Gold felt there are a handful who have the potential to push for a place in Jose Mourinho’s first team squad.

Unsurprisingly, he named Malachi Fagan-Walcott and Dennis Cirikin in defence, as well as Harvey White and Jamie Bowden in midfield as exciting talents.

Speaking about the academy players, Gold said on his Youtube channel: “You say Malachi Fagan-Walcott come on against Leipzig. He’s a very talented young central defender.

“Dennis Cirkin we saw on the bench in the FA Cup game against Middlesbrough. He’s a very good left-back, he’s really stepped up.

“He hasn’t really played any U-23 football. He’s mostly played at U-18, U-19 level. He’s a very talented footballer.

“In terms of midfielders, you got Harvey White, Jamie Bowden – two very good central midfielders who actually work as a really good pair.”

However, it was winger J’Neil Bennett which Gold said he is most excited by.

His pick might surprise a few fans considering Bennett is not as highly regarded as the likes of Cirkin and Parrott but Gold raved about the tricky winger’s quality.

The youngster has had a great season for the U-18s, netting six goals and three assists in 10 appearances (transfermarkt.com).

Gold believes the 18-year-old will break into the Spurs first-team if his path is not blocked.

He said: “In more attacking areas, you’ve got J’Neil Bennett. I really like Bennett. He’s a really exciting, direct player that can score some cracking goals.

“He scored the first-ever goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and it was a beauty. A really curling lovely effort. Keep your eye out for him.

“I really hope his path isn’t blocked too much. If not get him out on loan.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The one issue with attacking players and wingers is that it is anybody’s guess how they effective they will be when they go up a level as the defenders get physically and technically stronger. I am personally most excited by Harvey White out of the current crop of youngsters coming through.
