‘Keeps hitting you’ – Liverpool star makes claim about Tottenham defender

Alexis Mac Allister has shed light on what it is like to face international teammate Cristian Romero, admitting that the centre-back does not show any mercy on the pitch.

While some Spurs fans will argue that Romero is not as dirty a player as his reputation suggests, there is no doubt that the Tottenham man is extremely aggressive on the pitch and is prone to the odd risky challenge.

The Tottenham vice-captain admitted to Sky Sports recently that he is trying to ‘polish’ that aspect of his game and improve his disciplinary record.

However, Postecoglou will not want the 25-year-old to get rid of his physicality and aggression, with the World Cup winner not being shy of going in hard against the players he knows quite well.

Cristian Romero has been a revelation under Ange Postecoglou

Enzo Fernandez found that out in the London derby back in November, with Romero receiving a red card for his troubles and Mac Allister has now admitted that he too has been on the receiving end of the Spurs star’s tackles.

When asked about playing against the centre-back, the Liverpool midfielder told Directv Sports: “We had a few run-ins with Cuti Romero. He’s a real pain, very aggressive and if you don’t stand up to him he keeps hitting you. But we have a great relationship and it makes it easier.”

While Romero may be hard and uncompromising on the pitch (and reportedly in training as well), he is clearly a much different person off the pitch, as demonstrated by his popularity among his Tottenham and Argentine teammates.

He showed his quality once again yesterday when he got forward to head in what proved to be the winnning goal in Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.
