‘Kevin De Bruyne playing for Spurs’ – Berbatov makes big playmaker claim

Dimitar Berbatov has claimed watching Harry Kane pass the ball makes it seem as though Kevin De Bruyne is playing for Tottenham.

While Kane has been recognised as one of the best goalscorers in world football for several years, it is only in the past two seasons that the striker is starting to get the credit he deserves for his all-round game.

The England captain finished with the most goals as well as the most assists in the Premier League last season (Premierleague.com) – a particularly impressive feat considering that Tottenham finished seventh in the table.

After a slow start to this campaign, the 28-year-old has been back to his best since Antonio Conte’s arrival at Spurs, not only finding the back of the net with regularity but also proving to be the Lilywhites’ best creator when he drops deep to pick the ball up.

Following Tottenham’s 5-0 win over Everton, Jamie Carragher insisted that Kane is as good a passer of the ball as De Bruyne (Sky Sports).

That is a view that Berbatov agrees with, with the Bulgarian waxing lyrical about Kane’s ability to create chances for his side.

The former Spurs striker told The Daily Star: “Honestly, I look at strikers a bit differently, his overall movement around the pitch, and how he gets the ball. When he has the ball, there is a calmness around the pitch.

“And when he passes the ball, oh my god, it’s like I’m watching Kevin De Bruyne playing for Spurs. He’s so good at scoring goals and playing killer passes – so he’s in between a No.9 and No.10.”

If Kane played as a number eight, he would arguably be one of the best attacking midfielders in the world.

Apart from his passing range with both feet, he also has an ability to create half a yard of space for himself even when he is handed the ball in a tight area.

His hold up play is also seemingly getting better since Conte arrived at Tottenham and the 28-year-old looks to be improving his all-round game every year.
