Kieran Trippier responds to free-kick question with joke at Tottenham star

Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier has taken a cheeky swipe at Tottenham’s Eric Dier when asked who taught him how to take free-kicks.

Trippier has made a good impression during his short stint with the Magpies so far, helping his side claim vital wins over Everton and Aston Villa in recent weeks.

In those games, the 31-year-old netted two stunning free-kicks en route to Newcastle lifting themselves out of the Premier League relegation zone.

But Trippier fractured a metatarsal in his left foot during the clash against Villa which is expected to rule him out until the final month of the campaign (Sky Sports).

Now with more time on his hands, Trippier was hosting a question and answer session on Instagram when a query on who taught him how to take the set-piece so effectively.

He then responded by saying that it was not from his former Tottenham teammate Dier with three laughing emojis attached.

The pair, though, have both scored free-kicks while on international duty for England with Dier netting a stunning effort against Russia at Euro 2016.

Trippier spent four seasons at Spurs, recording two goals and 24 assists in 114 appearances for the club (Transfermarkt).

Trippier had a pretty tough end to his Tottenham career having lost in the Champions League final and his form taking a big dip.

He did have ability in his locker, especially with free-kicks, and that has been demonstrated already at Newcastle shortly before his injury.
