‘Kill your opponent’ – Conte reveals why he is ‘a bit disappointed’ with Liverpool draw

Antonio Conte has revealed that he is a little disappointed with Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool, despite his team coming from behind in the second half.

Spurs took the lead through a fine Harry Kane finish after a superb Tanguy Ndombele through ball, but failed to capitalise on their subsequent chances in front of goal.

Kane, Heung-min Son and Dele Alli were all guilty of missing key chances to put Spurs two or three ahead, before Diogo Jota equalised with a first-half header.

Liverpool went up a gear in the second half and took the lead through Andy Robertson, only for Spurs to equalise through Son five minutes later.

The Liverpool left-back was then sent off for a challenge on Emerson Royal soon after.

Harry Kane, who was perhaps lucky not to see red himself in the first 45, and his teammates attempted to find a winner with their late one-man advantage, but the match ended 2-2.

For all the chances Tottenham failed to convert, Conte was a little disappointed with the shared points.

He said (Football London): “At the end, I think so, but I said this to our players.

“On one hand, I think we had a good performance, great commitment, great desire to take points against a strong team, against – for me – one of the best teams in the world in this the moment, not only Europe.

“To get one point could be good one on one hand, on the other when you create this many chances and have this type of performance you have to kill your opponent and get three points.

“For this reason, I think we have to be a bit disappointed. We have to go home happy, but half and half.

“Happy on the one hand but a bit disappointed on the other, because we had an important chance to get three points against Liverpool, one of the best, not only in the Premier League but in the world.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I think most Spurs fans agree with Conte here. I am happy with a point but the chances were there to win it. Ultimately, today was about the performance after COVID and I was very impressed by what I saw.
