Harry Redknapp has backed Ledley King to play a part in this summer’s World Cup.
King has long-standing problems with his knee, meaning he struggles to play two games in a week.
However, Fabio Capello would have been impressed with the defender’s performance at old Trafford on Saturday, as he produced an inspired defensive display in addition to grabbing goal.
King has 19 caps for his country so far and Redknapp feels he should be able to add to that in South Africa if given the chance.
“I think he will go to the World Cup. Ledley can play every six days and there are six days between games at the World Cup.
“He would have to be handled right, and Fabio would need to take advice from our medical staff about that, because if you didn’t, you would break him.
“But he is so important. He makes a difference to us and a fantastic character to have around.
“Imagine how good he would have been without the injury. He would have been unbelievable because he is at the top level now without training.”
