Ledley King highlighted the importance of a winning start to Tottenham’s Premier League campaign.

Harry Redknapp’s side were 2-1 winners against Liverpool at White Hart Lane, courtesy of goals from Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Sebastien Bassong.

King told Sky Sports: “Yeah, it’s great.  Obviously after beginning last season so bad it was important we got off to a good start.  Liverpool is always going to be a tough side but the teamwork and work-rate we couldn’t have asked for anymore and we’re delighted.

“The way he (Bassong) was heading balls away, he is a great lad and a great athlete.  We’re happy to have him here.

“It’s the first game of the season and a hot day.  I thnk both teams were both a bit tentative, but when we picked up the pace we looked the most dangerous.  We’re a pacey team and when we caught them on the break we looked at our best.

  1. The smile on my face says it all. Great start. Bring on Hull. Good play all round and Dave was fantasic great first goal for the club.

  2. I would just like to say this, Ledley King is the best defender in the world. I dont care if he goes out and gets pissed, calls people “boss” and boasts about how much he earns, he is a great player.

  3. Great start for Spurs, Harry summed it up with Palacios winning man of the match and saying he is a ‘proper’ midfielder. He has made such a positive impact at Spurs. We haven’t had a player like that for such a long time. I just hope we sign another strong midfielder who can boss a game before the end of August to step in if needed. Otherwise without Palacios the centre of midfield would look quite weak. (I would take Distin for 3m too!) COYS.

  4. palacios is our best player, maybe not technically gifted player that we have but he has changed us as a team and helped us push up a notch, moderic will have big season too and looking forward to him this year, i a very happy yid, the only small downs from today i think is keane missing great 1st half chances he should of buried at least 2 of them, and gomes conceding that penalty he shouldn’t off dived out. But a solid display, who knows this year with no europe why cant we put a serious top 4 challenge on, consistancy is the key i think..
