‘Knew it would be Tottenham’ – Club spokesperson opens up on exciting transfer deal

Djurgardens sports coordinator Peter Kisfaludy has revealed that he always knew Lucas Bergvall would choose Tottenham ahead of the other interested clubs and has explained the part Dejan Kulusevski and Ange Postecoglou made in persuading the youngster.

It has been well-documented that Spurs saw off competition from Barcelona to land Bergvall on deadline day in January (Sport).

However, the Catalan giants were not the only ones who failed with a move for the midfielder during the last transfer window, with BILD reporting back in February that Eintracht Frankfurt also felt at one time that they had the deal wrapped up before Tottenham swooped in.

In addition, it has also been suggested by Swedish publications that Aston Villa and Wolves also failed with attempts to hijack Spurs’ deal for the 18-year-old (Fotboll Direkt).

Bergvall was always going to choose Tottenham

Kisfaludy has now revealed that he always knew Bergvall was going to end up at Tottenham, revealing that he had spoken to Dejan Kulusevski even before the transfer was officially agreed.

He told FotbollTransfers: “I always knew that it would be Tottenham. Because I talked to Dejan Kulusevski. I messaged him and said Lucas is coming down, so take good care of him. Dejan is fantastic and has a huge amount of experience despite being only 24 years old. No one seems to settle on Dejan.”

Kisfaludy also revealed that Bergvall and Kulusevski have known each other for more than three years.

He continued: “It was when Dejan played for Juventus three years ago. When we were down there, we were at Dejan’s house for dinner and it was the first time we met. Now after that, it was of course bingo. That Lucas got to sit with Dejan for a whole evening. I think that was important.”

Finally, the Djurgardens spots coordinator explained that Bergvall was convinced that Spurs would be the right move for him following his conversation with Postecoglou.

When asked about the teenager’s interaction with the Spurs boss, he said “He (Bergvall) got a better feeling and that is not so strange. When the coach Ange Postecoglou sits down with him and says that he loves young players and that he will get the chance here if he works hard. Compare that to Barcelona, where you didn’t even know who would coach the team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that so many clubs were quite keen on Bergvall perhaps shows just how highly the 18-year-old is thought of by various talent spotters in the game.

It does look like Tottenham potentially have a gem on their hands but Postecoglou will fancy his chances of bringing the best out of the midfielder over the next couple of years.
