Dejan Kulusevski has heaped praise on Rodrigo Bentancur, insisting that the Tottenham midfielder does not get the kind of plaudits that he deserves.

It is fair to say that the arrival of Bentancur and Kulusevski was not met with much excitement from Spurs fans back in January of this year as both players had struggled to get into the Juventus side at the time.

However, in less than ten months since arriving, there can be no doubt that they are now two of Tottenham’s most important players.

Bentancur has played nearly every single game since arriving in north London and the Uruguayan is continuing to get better each time he takes to the field.

While his energy, composure on the ball and defensive quality was there for all to see last season, he has added another dimension to his game with important goals against Sporting CP, Bournemouth and Leeds.

The 25-year-old netted a late quickfire brace to help the Lilywhites seal a dramatic comeback against Leeds United to win 4-3, with the two goals taking the midfielder’s tally to five goals in all competitions so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Kulusevski admitted after the game that he is over the moon for Bentancur, remarking that he is ‘one of the most underrated players in the world’.

The Swede told BBC Match of the Day (12/11/22): “When we were 3-3 I said in my head that the next time I get the ball I am going to shoot and I am going to score.

“But then it was a different situation and I saw Rodri alone, and I just pray to God that he will score and he did. He is a fantastic player, one of the most underrated players in the world. I am very happy for him.”

Bentancur does not appear to have any weaknesses in his game. While Uruguay does not necessarily have one outstanding attribute, he is excellent at all phases of play, which makes him an ideal fit to play in the middle of the park in Conte’s system.
