La Liga expert explains what Spurs fans can expect from Bryan Gil this season

Former Tottenham striker Terry Gibson, who works as a commentator on Sky Sports’ coverage of La Liga, has waxed lyrical about Bryan Gil.

Spurs confirmed the capture of Gil on Monday evening as a part of a deal that saw Erik Lamela join Sevilla.

The 20-year-old shone during his loan spell at Eibar last season and was rewarded with his first senior cap for Spain earlier this year, although he missed out on Luis Enrique’s squad for the European Championship.

Sources from Spain have suggested that Sevilla tried to tie Gil down to a new contract with a £130m release clause but decided to cash in on the winger as he was reluctant to sign such a deal.

If true, that potentially sheds light on how highly the youngster was thought of at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

Gibson insisted that Gil is a player that fans will love watching in the Premier League next season and admitted that he was delighted to see his former club snap up the winger.

He told Sky Sports News (5:41pm, July 26, 2021): “He is a player that people will enjoy watching.

“He is an old-fashioned winger, great at dribbling, great first touch, good passer of the ball, and, as you can tell, I am absolutely delighted that Spurs have managed to sign him.”

Spurs do have a shortage of attacking players who are willing to isolate their man, take them on and beat them, with Moura arguably being the closest one we have to that. So, Gil could certainly add something different to our attack.
