La Liga expert gives verdict on Kounde and whether he could join Spurs

La Liga expert Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has heaped praise on Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde and gave his verdict on Tottenham’s chances of landing him.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Tottenham are going to sign at least one or two centre backs this transfer window and that Kounde is ‘highly appreciated’.

Romano also stated that he’s expected to leave for less than the €80 million release clause he currently has in his contract.

La Colina de Nervion reported this week that Tottenham are set to bid £50m for the Sevilla star and will then turn to Milan Skriniar if that fails.

Campbell has hinted that Spurs may indeed need to look elsewhere, claiming that he cannot see the North London side snapping up the central defender this summer.

This is what the former Arsenal and Everton striker, who delivered weekly punditry for La Liga TV last season, had to say about the 22-year-old defender’s abilities and also whether his future could be at Tottenham:

“Kounde is a top, top player and it looks like he could be on his way out of Sevilla. I cannot see Spurs getting him though, to be honest with you.

“The way the manager situation has been handled there, I cannot imagine him wanting to join. It just doesn’t make any sense.

“I’m sure some Champions League clubs will be interested in signing him as well.”

Kounde would be a signing that would be one of the best in Tottenham’s recent history. He is a very young, proactive, and modern defender.

But the logistics of the deal seem unrealistic, there is no doubt Kounde wants to play for a Champions League side. Also, anything more than £50 million will surely turn Levy’s head away.
