Lamela’s impressive form sees him reap the rewards

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Erik Lamela has been recalled to the Argentina national side.

Lamela last featured for his country in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela in 2016 which ended up as a 2-2 draw.

His injury issues in recent years have been well documented but has this season shown glimpses of why Tottenham decided to reward him with a new contract in the summer.

Lamela, who has 23 caps to his name has been in fine form for Tottenham this season, having scored five goals in ten appearances.

His inclusion in the squad will see him considered for selection for Argentina’s double header against Mexico later this month.

The first game takes place on the 16th in Cordoba, with the second match scheduled for four days later in Mendoza.

One player who will not be joining Lamela in the squad is Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who announced he was taking a sabbatical from international football after their disastrous display during this summer’s World Cup.
