‘Late opportunities’ – Alasdair Gold provides update on Spurs’ January transfer plans

Alasdair Gold has hinted that Tottenham could make moves for a centre-back and a goalkeeper during the current transfer window if the right opportunities open up.

Multiple outlets have reported that Antonio Conte’s priority in this window is to sign an attacker and a right wing-back (90 min).

It is clear by now that Pedro Porro is Spurs’ top right wing-back target, with the North London club locked in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon for the Spaniard (Fabrizio Romano).

Meanwhile, over the last few days, Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo has seemingly emerged as Tottenham’s top attacking target, with the Giallorossi now thought to be ready to cash in on the 23-year-old (Alfredo Pedulla).

Gold has now reiterated in his latest Football.London column that the aforementioned two positions are Spurs’ priorities, with the journalist adding that the club are planning on signing upgrades in central defence, and midfield next summer along with a successor to Hugo Lloris.

However, he explains that the Lilywhites’ plans could change and the club could decide to move those plans forward if any late opportunities arise over the next two weeks.

Gold wrote: ‘Upgrades in the centre of defence and midfield, as well as a long-term successor to Lloris, are all planned for the summer with better options available then, but late opportunities that arise will be looked at in case any of those plans can be moved forward.’

While Tottenham do need reinforcements in central defence this window, the advantage of waiting until the summer is that there will be better options available on the market. It does seem like the club are fully focused on the Porro and Zaniolo deals during the current window.
