Latest: Spurs expected to complete €11M loan move for La Liga star

With less than 48 hours to go before the transfer deadline, reports suggest that Tottenham have made a bid to take Barcelona Phillipe Coutinho on loan for the season (AS).

It is suggested that club have identified Coutinho as the man to replace Eriksen if he is to leave the club this summer.

Coutinho has had an underwhelming eight 18 months in Spain since moving from Liverpool back in January of 2018.

Spanish journalist Rafael Hernández suggests that the Lilywhites offered Eriksen to Barcelona in exchange for Coutinho but that the Spanish giants declined the proposal.

El Partidazo de COPE report that Barca are keen to get rid of Coutinho this summer and are willing to loan him to Tottenham for a fee of just €11M.

Le10sport claim Countinho is now keen on a move to Spurs after Mauricio Pochettino spoke to him over the phone and convinced him to make the move to North London.

However, the latest update from Sky Sports claims that Coutinho has turned down the chance to join on loan. It remains to be seen which reports are correct.

This very much looks like an alternative option rather than being the club’s first choice. However, if Pochettino can get Countinho performing to the same level he did at Liverpool, then he can even be a potential upgrade on Eriksen. If the loan deal does go through, let’s hope it comes with an option to buy.
