BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will beat Birmingham City in the final Premier League game of the season on Sunday.
He told BBC Sport Online: “Should Wigan get something out of their game against Stoke, the spotlight – and pressure – falls squarely on they shoulders of Birmingham.
“And, for me, Alex McLeish’s side have a real worry.
“They look like they’ve gone in every way – physically, mentally, they look lightweight up front and they’re up against a Tottenham side that looks to have returned to form on the back of a very comfortable win at Anfield last week.
“Birmingham’s problem is that they’re not a team that finds it easy to open up and on the basis that they might even need to win at White Hart Lane, I think they’re really struggling.
“If you look at last season the Blues won so many games 1-0 – but this season, since they lost defender Scott Dann, they’ve looked so vulnerable. I also think they’ve switched right off after winning the Carling Cup and they have been in a terrible rut since. The lack of goals has been startling too.
“Simply, I can’t see them getting anything from this match – and that might put Birmingham bang in trouble.
“As for Tottenham, a win puts them in the Europa League which seals fifth place – and despite a late-season slump, they’ve had a good season all things considered.
“Where they go from here is the question…
“Prediction: 2-0.”
