Lawro predicts Spurs to beat Stevenage

BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Tottenham will beat Stevenage in the FA Cup fifth round tie.

It’s hardly an expert prediction but Lawro does not expect Harry Redknapp’s side to become another banana skin to Stevenage – who knocked out Newcastle a couple of years ago.

He told BBC Sport Online: “Stevenage lost their manager Graham Westley to Preston last month but it does not seem to have knocked them out of their stride too much.

“They are still in a great position in the League One play-off places and are still ticking over under Westley’s successor Gary Smith, who says they are keen to show they can play a bit of football against Spurs.

“We saw what these players can do when they shocked Newcastle in the FA Cup last season, but I’m backing Tottenham to come through this tie.

“Not only do Tottenham have some exceptionally skilful players, they have a bit of steel about them too. Mentally they are very strong.

“Spurs know that if they win this, they are into the quarter-finals. With the big boys, Manchester City and Manchester United both out, Harry Redknapp and his players will be among those looking at the FA Cup and thinking, ‘we can win this’.

“Beasant says: “I can’t see a shock happening here. With Harry Redknapp potentially leaving in the summer, he will be looking to win as much as he can. I think they will definitely be trying to win the FA Cup this season.”

“Lawro’s prediction: 0-2.”
