Some Lazio supporters hang anti-Semitic Mourinho banner due to Spurs/Roma links

Some Lazio fans hung an anti-Semitic banner aimed at Jose Mourinho ahead of their match against local rivals Roma on Saturday.

Roma confirmed earlier this month that Mourinho would be taking over as the club’s head coach from Paulo Fonseca at the end of the season.

The Serie A club, like Tottenham, have a rich Jewish history, having had a strong fan base among the Jewish immigrants in the past.

Just like Spurs fans, Roma supporters have often been targetted with vile anti-semitic chants and banners.

Some Lazio fans have been particularly guilty of anti-Semitic gestures in the past, including Nazi salutes and anti-semitic Anne Frank stickers.

According to The Daily Mirror, some Lazio fans hung a poster on a motorway in the Corso Francia zone of the northern part of Rome ahead of the derby on Saturday, which the Giallorossi won 2-0 courtesy of goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pedro.

The banner read: “Yesterday Spurs, today AS Roma, Tomorrow Maccabi.”
