‘Leapfrogged by Chelsea’ – Paul Merson predicts Spurs vs Burnley score

Paul Merson has claimed that the game against Burnley is a must-win clash for Tottenham Hotspur as they are in danger of being overtaken by Chelsea.

Tottenham’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League are all but over after they suffered four back-to-back losses in the Premier League against Newcastle United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

While Spurs still mathematically have a chance of finishing above Villa, realistically, they are now playing for pride and the players will be keen to give their fans something to cheer about after the poor results of late.

However, Merson believes the game on Saturday could be quite consequential, suggesting that Tottenham are now in danger of being leapfrogged by their London rivals Chelsea.

Tottenham vs Burnley score prediction

The pundit suggested the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be a close one and the away side will get a couple of goals but he backed Spurs to just about edge past Vincent Kompany’s men.

The former Arsenal midfielder told Sportskeeda: “I don’t see Tottenham beating Man City, so all of a sudden, this becomes a must-win game to confirm the fifth spot. A few weeks ago, Spurs were going head-to-head with Aston Villa for a place in the UEFA Champions League, but suddenly they could be leapfrogged by Chelsea if they continue their free fall.

“Burnely miss chance after chance and concede a lot of goals, so I’m going for a Tottenham win in a game that could see a lorry load of goals.”

Prediction: Tottenham 3-2 Burnley.

This is not just a must-win game but one that Tottenham need to win convincingly and deliver a dominant performance. Anything other than a comfortable win will see the pressure continue to mount on Postecoglou.
