Ben Davies has claimed that the Tottenham squad needs to absorb Antonio Conte’s comments about needing to improve on the mental and tactical side of the game.
Conte suggested confidence is low and through question marks over whether his players possessed a winning mentality yet after Spurs fell to a third consecutive Premier League defeat in the form of a 2-0 loss at home to Wolves (Football.London).
Sunday’s defeat has caused Spurs to slip down to eighth, which has pegged them back in the race to secure Champions League football next season.
Although Conte continued to admit that things needed to improve, he still stated that he was content with his side’s performance despite the result (Football.London).
But Davies believes he and his Spurs teammates need to listen to the Italian’s harsh views in order to turn around what is a tough situation.
He said (via Evening Standard): “To have the opportunity to work under a world-class manager is always nice as a player.
“Sometimes you learn more in the tough times. We have to really take in what he says. We know he has the skill-set and the mental ability to make us better players. All we can do is learn from that.
“There’s a good group of boys here and everyone’s determined to be better. The standards we have set are better than we’ve shown and it’s up to us to prove that. It’s a group that’s hurting right now. It’s a tough result to take, we know how much better we have to be.
“Any time you’re not winning games you’re going to get questions and we have to deal with that. It’s important not to overreact.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Conte has been pretty honest about the squad’s recent performances and that is exactly what is needed for improvements to start. Then it is done to the players to soak that up and deal with it, otherwise, nothing will change.
