‘Learn their lesson that way’ – Postecoglou makes interesting statement on Spurs suspension issues

Ange Postecoglou has admitted that Tottenham need to learn from their suspension mistakes, as missing players are costing the side on the pitch.

Spurs have been the worst team in the Premier League for yellow and red cards so far this season, with the Lilywhites picking up four reds since the start of the campaign.

Yves Bissouma, who was shown a straight red for a high challenge against Nottingham Forest last week, has already been giving his marching orders twice so far this season.

Both Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were handed red cards in the same game against Chelsea, and the latter is now suspended for the Everton game this weekend due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

Do Tottenham have a problem with discipline?

Postecoglou hopes that players will learn their lessons by watching their teammates from the stands as Tottenham continue to play well and win games. Perhaps that fear of missing out with spark an improvement in discipline for the Lilywhites.

He said (Football London): “Obviously, it is something that is not great for us as it is costing us during games, it is costing us post-games. Players are well aware of the kind of impact those things have and I’m sure they will learn from those experiences.

“My experience in football is that the best remedy for those kind of things is players missing out. If they feel they are missing out on something then it brings them into line pretty quickly. Hopefully, we keep winning and the guys who miss out learn their lesson that way.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I think half of the problem is Spurs players making silly decisions. Yves Bissouma’s dive against Luton and his silly challenge at 2-0 against Forest, for example. The other half is getting used to such a relentless front-foot style of play. I’m sure discipline will improve as they get used to things.
