Ledley King backs 20-year-old to impress Conte during Spurs pre-season

Ledley King believes that Troy Parrott could impress Antonio Conte during pre-season and stake a claim for a first-team role at Spurs next year.

Parrott’s development had stalled a bit last season but the striker has demonstrated at MK Dons this campaign just why he is so highly thought of.

The Republic of Ireland international not only displayed his eye for goal but also proved to be the Dons’ creator-in-chief, operating in a number ten role for the League One club for a significant part of the campaign.

According to reports Antonio Conte wants to bring in a big-name striker to Spurs this summer to supplement Harry Kane (The Mirror).

King has now claimed that it would be difficult for Spurs to sign a top-quality striker as players of that calibre might not want to play second fiddle to Kane.

The former Tottenham captain suggested that the North London club might be better served using Parrott as the 28-year-old’s understudy next season.

King told Bookmakers.com (as relayed by Football.London): “It’s hard to bring in another striker to Tottenham, especially one who knows they are not going to play much.

“Harry Kane is the best in the world at his position and he going to be playing every game. You have to find someone though who can have an impact in certain moments in games.

“You’d probably want a good young player that can come on and play some minutes. Ideally, you want someone like Troy Parrott or Dane Scarlett to be behind Kane.

“Troy is of that age where this is going to be a big summer for him, especially if he comes back to Tottenham and gets a chance to impress.

“I got to work with Troy a little bit, he’s a very good lad. He is probably someone who suffered in terms of the fact he came to the club when he was nearly 16 and he had not had the benefit of being in the youth system for years developing his craft.

“He came as a bit of a raw talent, so he is still learning at the moment, but there is no doubt that he is definitely a goal scorer. I hope that he can come back to club from MK Dons now and impress.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Parrott certainly has a great opportunity to impress Conte and his coaching staff during pre-season and the 20-year-old will be full of confidence on the back of the season he has had at Stadium MK.

However, Conte will probably want a striker with more experience who he can count on as Kane’s understudy next season. So, I suspect Parrott will be loaned out again in the summer.
