Ledley King names two forwards he thinks Spurs should go for this summer

When it comes to Tottenham Hotspur, Ledley King has seen it all as both a player and a coach, now the club legend has identified two players who could improve Ange Postecoglou’s attack for next season.

Tottenham are on the hunt for a new striker

A whole host of centre-forwards have been mooted as targets for Tottenham over recent months, with various reports suggesting that the Lilywhites want to add a marquee number nine to their squad to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure last summer (Football Insider).

Last week, GiveMeSport claimed that Spurs have narrowed their list down to five candidates – Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.

King believes that Tottenham could look closer to home for a centre-forward, naming Ferguson and Solanke as players who could do well at N17.

Ledley King likes the look of Solanke and Ferguson

When asked who Spurs should replace Kane with, the legendary centre-back told talkSPORT: “It’s difficult to find out who. Finding a top, top striker is at a premium. I really like [Alexander] Isak at Newcastle but that’s probably not going to happen.

“I like [Dominic] Solanke at Bournemouth, Evan Ferguson at Brighton. Solanke’s had a good season. I’d like to see us get an out-and-out striker.”

Tottenham’s main issue last season was not scoring goals but rather keeping them out on the other end of the pitch. King believes that Spurs’ defensive record will improve if they sign the kind of midfielders and attacking players that Ange Postecoglou wants.

He added: “We conceded a lot of goals but if we improve going forward then that takes the load off the defenders.

“If the manager wants to play an attacking style of football it’s as simple as that. The full-backs are inside the pitch and of course that’s going to create space for the opposition, but you have to create in your style.

“The more we can strengthen our squad to play in the manager’s style of football in terms of being on the front foot that will see us concede fewer goals.”

Solanke seems like a good stylistic fit for Tottenham but I cannot see Spurs paying over £50m to bring the Bournemouth forward to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Unless the Lilywhites can get Ivan Toney, I feel they will look at overseas options.

Replacing Harry Kane is an impossible task, however, there is no doubt the club need to take the goalscoring burden off Heung-min Son‘s shoulders and need a forward who can score at least 15 goals a season.
