Ledley King reveals how Spurs can bounce back from Champions League heartbreak

Just over a month ago, things looked gloomy in the white half of North London after Spurs fell to a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the final of the Champions League.

There was a feeling that the Lilywhites had missed their big chance and Mauricio Pochettino’s future at the club was in doubt.

However, fast forward a month and the mood has completely changed at the club. Pochettino seems to have committed himself to Spurs, and the club just shattered their transfer record for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, with more players reportedly likely to follow (AS via Sport Witness).

Tottenham Legend Ledley King has now brushed aside suggestions that Pochettino will find it difficult to pick his players up after the heartbreak in Madrid. Instead, the former club captain said that getting to the final will give the team the belief and the hunger to go for silverware next season.

Speaking to The Evening Standard, King said: “I don’t think it will be difficult (to pick the players up). There was the initial disappointment to lose the game, but then you have to take a step back and look at the season as a whole.

“To reach a Champions League Final is an unbelievable achievement considering we haven’t been playing in that competition that long.

“What I hope it will do is give the players that confidence to know that they can beat any team in the competition and they are capable of winning the competition, having come so close.

“That is what I would expect the players to feel coming back into the season and they will be hungry to try and get back to the Champions League Final, but also to make a good contribution to trying to win the Premier League, which is never easy as well.

“That’s how the players will hopefully feel coming back in, to be the best they can be and to improve on last season.”

While the final might have ended in disappointment, the amazing journey the club had to the final will always live in the memories of Spurs fans. Liverpool strengthened considerably after losing the final in the 17/18 season and went to have a really successful season last time out. There is no reason why Tottenham can’t do the same.
