Ledley King reveals one thing people do not realise about Lucas Bergvall

Ledley King has noted one thing that is often overlooked about Lucas Bergvall, which makes him such a difficult player for opposition midfielders to come up against.

Lucas Bergvall is undeniably the first midfielder on Tottenham Hotspur’s team sheet at the moment.

That is demonstrated by the fact that Ange Postecoglou now rests the Swede ahead of big games and often turns to him at half-time when his side desperately needs some inspiration, such as their game against Fulham on Sunday.

Despite being just 19 years of age, the youngster already appears to be a complete midfielder, with very few obvious weaknesses in his game.

Ledley King reveals what he noticed about Lucas Bergvall

For a creative midfielder like Bergvall, the attributes that often stand out are things like passing range, vision and ability to handle the ball under pressure.

However, King pointed out that the teenager is also extremely strong physically, and the enthusiasm with which he presses and tackles makes him a nightmare to play against.

The Spurs legend told the club’s official YouTube channel: “One thing that probably doesn’t stand out is just how big Lucas is and how physical he is. For someone so young he knows how to get stuck in and he has great intensity in terms of his pressing.

“We speak about lifting crowds, he can do that with his pressing, his running, his enthusiasm to win the ball back at times. He can dribble, he can pass, I’ve been really impressed with him.”

Lucas Bergvall compared to former Tottenham midfield maestro

Bergvall is continuing to come on leaps and bounds, and given how complete a game he has, it is anyone’s guess just how good he will become.

Alasdair Gold even likened the midfielder’s characteristics to former Tottenham hero, Luka Modric, which is huge praise for the youngster, who has not even completed a full season in the Premier League yet.

Gold said: “The Swede looks like someone who has rarely lived a day of his life without a ball at his feet. It’s simply an extension of him.

“The teenager caresses it, he cares for it and he twists and turns to protect it. There is the odd youthful error with it, but on the whole, he’s remarkably difficult to get the ball off.

“The way he uses his body will stir Tottenham fans’ memories of a young Luka Modric and if the even younger Bergvall can reach even half of the Croatian’s talent then he’ll have a career to remember.”
