Ledley King reveals R9 story that made him decide to retire from Tottenham career

Ledley King has revealed that it was after a game against Norwich City in the 2011-12 season that he finally realised it was time for him to hang up his boots.

King is widely seen as a generational talent, not just by Spurs fans but also by neutrals, with the centre-back’s knee injuries preventing him from perhaps evolving into one of the best in the world.

Throughout the second half of his career, the Tottenham captain had to play with a debilitating knee problem, which meant that he could not train with the rest of his teammates.

King decided to call time on his career at just 31 years of age and he has revealed the exact moment the realisation that it is over dawned on him – when he came up against former Norwich striker Grant Holt.

For a couple of seasons following Norwich’s promotion in 2011, Holt was arguably one of the best strikers in the Premier League.
