Ledley King reviews Romero’s season so far – Reveals one thing worried him initially

Ledley King has hailed Cristian Romero’s impact at Tottenham as ‘brilliant’ and believes he fits into the team’s defence well.

Romero, who joined Spurs from Atalanta ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, has emerged as a dependable option in a three-man defence under Antonio Conte.

The system has allowed the 23-year-old to showcase his ability to defend on the front foot and be aggressive to stifle any onrushing attackers.

While his ability to be strong in the challenge has been well-noted, his use of the ball has also been a key facet of his game and has often looked to play penetrating passes into midfield areas.

Former Tottenham and England centre-back King believes Romero has settled into Premier League life pretty comfortably and feels his acquisition has been an impactful one so far.

He told BT Sport: “I think he’s been brilliant. He’s obviously come from Italy with a lot of attention on him and he’s settled into the Premier League straight away.

“I looked at his record of yellow cards and I worried at first, but he seems to be able to play with an edge and control himself.

“He reads the game extremely well, likes to come out and play on the ball and seems to fit the system of the team perfectly.”

Romero’s move to Tottenham was confirmed to be a straight loan for the season from Atalanta last summer, with the club holding an obligation to buy him permanently at the end of term.

Spurs are expected to complete a deal for around £46.7 million, with Conte previously confirming the move is expected to materialise (Football.London).

Spurs Web Opinion

Romero has largely been a positive impact on Spurs, despite having a long-term injury and a couple of shaky moments in defence.

He has all the qualities and attributes to keep growing into a really top centre-back and he is moving quickly in that direction at a young age.
