Ledley King will have knee surgery this week, then start contract talks with Spurs.
The club captain has managed to start 23 games this season despite suffering from a chronic knee injury. We all love Ledley, lets make no bones about that but there is doubts over his future. Whatever happens in our opinion he should be given a job at the club for life – whether that be in an ambassadorial role, working with the youngsters or among Redknapp’s coaching staff.
Let’s not write him off yet though, since the defender isn’t ready to just yet. He’s hoping that a clear out of his knee will allow him to have another good season – but first of all a contract must be agreed.
There has been talk of Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen joining Spurs in the summer. The 25-year-old was rumoured to be in the stands for Tottenham’s 2-0 win against Fulham on Sunday and we’d all admit that we need another central defender on the books with King, Gallas and Nelson on the wrong side of 30. Vertonghen will definitely be leaving the Dutch giants this summer with Spurs and Arsenal mooted as two of the strongest options.
“Now the season is done I am sure there will be some talks,” King told the press.
“To be honest, I am not entirely sure what’s going on (in terms of a contract offer)
“I have just wanted to concentrate on trying to play and get my knee right.”

“I will have a little clean out, maybe in the next couple of days,” he added.
“It’s something I had earlier in the season. I missed the first few games when I had an operation and hopefully it’s not something serious.
“It is something I will have done and hopefully it won’t set me back too much.
“I hope I will be able to have a good season with the knee cleared out.”
