‘Let H prepare’ – Heung-min Son responds to Harry Kane chant from Spurs fans

Heung-min Son has insisted that he and his teammates blocked out the speculation surrounding Harry Kane’s future ahead of their season opener against Manchester City.

Tottenham produced a spirited performance in Nuno Espirito Santo’s first game in charge to turn over the reigning Champions 1-0.

Nuno’s men defended resolutely and always looked a threat on the counter-attack, with City struggling to cope with the home side’s pace up front.

Spurs fans could not have wished for a better performance on their return to the stadium after a year and a half.

The performance was particularly impressive considering the build-up was dominated by speculation over Kane’s potential switch to the Etihad.

However, the matchwinner, Son Heung-min, insisted the players were completely focused on the task at hand on Sunday.

The South Korean told Sky Sports after the game (15/08/21 at 18:30 as relayed by MEN): “We are all professional and just wanted to focus on this game, it doesn’t matter who is involved and who is not.

“Everyone was really, really focused for this game.

“Harry is so, so important for us, but let’s see and let H prepare well for this season.”

Kane did not make the matchday squad for the clash but the Tottenham fans certainly made their feelings towards Kane clear by chanting: “Are you watching Harry Kane?”

When asked what he made of the chant, Son said: “Obviously I was so focused so I couldn’t hear it. As I said, we are so professional.

“We just wanted to focus on this game because last season we didn’t start well against Everton so we really wanted to start well, especially this season.

“We did a great job and I just want to enjoy this afternoon.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Reading between the lines of Nuno’s, Son’s and Dier’s statements about the Kane, I do suspect that the squad have already accepted that the 28-year-old is off.

The next few days will certainly be telling as one would expect Spurs to accelerate moves for potential replacements if they do anticipate Kane leaving.
