Some Spurs fans cannot help but wonder how the club’s season would have turned out had they managed to sign Paulo Dybala last summer.
The 2019/20 season has been one for Tottenham fans to forget, with the club failing to finish in the top four for the first time in the past five seasons.
Almost no one foresaw the club’s struggles this campaign, particularly after the significant investment they made on transfers last summer.
The club bought in Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Jack Clarke, and Ryan Sessegnon last summer but just failed to get a deal for Paulo Dybala over the line.
It has since been revealed that complications with the Argentine’s image rights prevented Spurs from completing the transfer (Independent).
Since the collapsed move to North London, Dybala has established himself as an important part of the Juve side, enjoying a fantastic campaign.
In fact, the 26-year-old was voted the Serie A Player of the Season as his eleven goals and eleven assists helped Juve to their ninth successive title (Goal.com).
Here’s how some Spurs fans on social media reacted to Dybala taking home the award:
Dybala has been named Player of the Season in Italy.
I wonder what Levy is thinking about those image rights now?#THFC

To think Levy didn't want to pay for the image rights. Good thing Dybala had a below average season then eh 😒 https://t.co/hcOtA6ioGc

Pochs top transfer targets were dybala and bruno Fernandes and maybe grealish, levy blocked them all, these players would have been part of a seamless rebuild and would of finished top 4 this season

Spurs Web Opinion
None of us knows the exact specifics behind why the deal for Dybala collapsed or what the complications were with his image rights. There is no doubt that landing Dybala could have transformed our season but the Argentine’s transfer fee and wages would have also been a substantial financial commitment, which may have put is more financial trouble after the pandemic had hit.
