‘Levy doesn’t’ – Report explains why Spurs are unlikely to sign centre-back

CalcioMercato.it have revealed that even though Josko Gvardiol is on Tottenham’s radar, the North London club are unlikely to pay the sort of fee that it would take to sign the centre-back from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham did not strengthen in central defence during the January transfer window, with reports over recent weeks indicating that the Lilywhites are expected to sign two centre-backs in the summer – a left-sided one and a right-sided one (Football.London).

Gvardiol would fit the bill for the former and CalcioMercato.it have now suggested that Antonio Conte’s men are one of several clubs who have their eyes on the Croat.

The report states that the defender is expected to leave Leipzig to ‘make the leap to a top European club’ next summer, with Real Madrid being his preferred destination.

However, it is explained that Los Blancos might find it difficult to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga club, who are thought to value the centre-back at a whopping €110m (£98m).

The publication adds Gvardiol could thus end up in the Premier League, with Spurs, Liverpool and Manchester United said to be interested in the player.

There is some doubt expressed if a move to Tottenham is on the cards for the 21-year-old, with the report stating that ‘Levy doesn’t usually spend crazy money’.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is absolutely no chance of Spurs spending around £100m (which would be the majority of our summer transfer budget) on one player as that is not the club’s business model.

I expect us to prioritise moves for cheaper alternatives such as Bastoni, Ndicka or Hincapie instead of the Leipzig star.
