Ligue 1 manager admits he is preparing for life without rumoured Spurs target

Angers manager, Stephane Moulin, has admitted that the club are preparing for life without rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Baptiste Santamaria next season.

Reports indicate that Spurs are in the market for a defensive midfielder, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg widely reported to be the North Londoners’ main target (Football Insider).

However, Santamaria is another player that the club are reportedly looking at as a possible option (Express).

The Angers man has been one of the most consistent midfield pivots in Ligue 1 for the past couple of seasons and has been compared with Chelsea star N’Golo Kante for his ability to win back possession.

It has previously been claimed that the 25-year-old could be available for around £13 million this summer (Le10Sport).

Moulin has now admitted that, while he would like to keep Santamaria at the Raymond Kopa Stadium, the midfielder could be on his way out if the right offer comes in.

Speaking to RMC Sport, the Angers boss said: “We are preparing for the future without him but we hope so with him (Santamaria).

“It is very clear, Baptiste did an extra season last year with us. We said that if there was an offer that lived up to what we expected and he also finds his account there he would be the next on the list of players to leave us.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Midfielders who arrive to the Premier League after success in Ligue 1 have a mixed record. For every N’Golo Kante, there is also a Tiemoue Bakayoko. Given how different the pace and intensity of the game is in France compared to England, it is difficult to predict how players would adapt. I would presume that Mourinho will prefer to bring in someone with Premier League experience like Hojbjerg.
