‘Like a kamikaze defender’ – Pundit criticises performances of one Spurs star

Gabriel Agbonlahor has criticised Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez, saying the Colombian plays ‘like a kamikaze defender’.

Sanchez has featured regularly under Antonio Conte, starting in 10 of the 12 Premier League games the Italian has been in charge for (Transfermarkt).

However, the 25-year-old has struggled to pick up any form in recent games and was part of the sides that suffered defeats to Southampton and Wolves last week.

Former Premier League striker Agbonlahor has been left unimpressed with Sanchez’s displays and says Conte being able to field his strongest players won’t matter with the side looking shaky defensively regardless.

Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “There is something about them at the moment because he [Conte] is playing his best team.

“You have got Son back in, you have got Harry Kane starting to get a bit of form back, but they just cannot defend.

“They just cannot defend, like Sanchez at the back, honestly, he is like a kamikaze defender. When you watch him, you just [see] that he has got a mistake in him.”

A poor week for Sanchez and Tottenham means they have now slipped to three consecutive league defeats and have fallen seven points behind Manchester United in the final Champions League spot.

Spurs have a tough task of redemption when they travel to league leaders Manchester City on Saturday evening.

It seemed as if Sanchez had made strides defensively under Conte, but all of that has come undone in the space of a week. He isn’t alone in that in fairness, but he does always seem to be prone to making errors and that was certainly on show last time out against Wolves.
