‘Like I have been here for five years’ – Ivan Perisic opens up on ‘amazing’ start at Spurs

Ivan Perisic has opened up on his first few weeks of training with Tottenham, even claiming that it feels as though he has been at the club for five years.

Perisic was the first of six new faces through the Hotspur Way doors this summer, joining on a free transfer after his contract with Inter Milan ran down.

The Croatian left-wing-back featured a couple of times for the Lilywhites in pre-season against Rangers and Roma, before making his debut against Southampton in the Premier League this weekend.

Ryan Sessegnon was given the nod to start the match over the 33-year-old, which was validated when the young Englishman headed home Tottenham’s first goal of the season.

However, Perisic was handed 25 minutes towards the end of the game when Spurs were 4-1 up, and looked assured on the ball in a Conte system he is very familiar with from their Inter days together.

When asked about his start to life at Spurs, Perisic said (Spurs Official matchday programme 06/08/22): “It has been amazing. Everything has been really positive.

“I have found myself in the dressing room like I have been here for five years. The group is amazing. They have helped me a lot from the first day. I am really enjoying it.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I have big hopes for Perisic this season, especially in terms of rotating with Ryan Sessegnon. Having two class left-wing-back options would be perfect for Spurs, and I think it will be less of a competitive relationship and more of a collaborative one between the two.
