Line Up: Brentford v Spurs – van de Ven starts in defence; no Eric Dier in squad

Ange Postecoglou has named his Tottenham Hotspur side which will take to the field in this afternoon’s Premier League clash against Brentford.

Postecoglou becomes the first Australian to manage in the Premier League today when he takes his place in the away dugout at the Brentford Community Stadium. The last time Spurs began a Premier League campaign with a London derby was in 2014, when they won 1-0 at West Ham in Mauricio Pochettino’s first game in charge.

The post Harry Kane era begins after the club record goalscorer sealed his move to Bayern Munich yesterday which has seen Tottenham appoint Heung-min Son as the new club captain.

Tottenham now must look to share the responsibility of goalscoring with Kane’s tally of 30 in the top flight last season now resting on the shoulders of not only Son, but also Richarlison, who only managed to find the back of the net once in his league during his first campaign in North London.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Ryan Sessegnon remain long-term absentees.
