Line Up: Tottenham v Burnley – a new Spurs captain

Ange Postecoglou has named his Spurs side which will take to the field in this evening’s FA Cup third clash against Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham will be looking to add to their past success in this season’s edition of the competition, having hoisted the iconic trophy on eight separate occasions. However, Spurs last tasted FA Cup glory in 1991 and haven’t lifted a major trophy since 2008.

The North Londoners have been missing a number of key players in recent weeks including James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, however, it is now Heung-min Son’s turn to join the list of those unavailable for selection with the club captain having departed to represent South Korea at the Asia Cup.

Young striker Alejo Veliz has cruelly missed his opportunity to impress in Son’s absence with the Argentine having picked up a knee injury in the most recent fixture against Bournemouth.

Spurs team news vs Burnley

Postecoglou told Football.London at yesterday’s pre-match press conference: “From last week unfortunately Alejo [Veliz] suffered a fairly significant injury. He had scans after the game and it’ll probably keep him out for a couple of months.

“He won’t need surgery but he’s suffered ligament damage. Disappointed for him because he’s worked hard to get an opportunity in the last couple of weeks and has been growing into it so really disappointed for him. In terms of last week, no one else is an issue on the injury front.

Tottenham have won five of their seven FA Cup ties against Burnley. Their most recent victory was after a third-round replay in the 2014-15 season.

This is who takes to the pitch in N17 this evening.

Spurs: Vicario; Porro, Royal, Davies, Udogie; Skipp, Bentancur, Lo Celso; Kulusevski, Richarlison, Johnson

Subs: Forster, Phillips, Dorrington, Van de Ven, Sessegnon, Hojbjerg, Donley, Gil, Scarlett
