Lineker labels Spurs star one of the ‘most exciting’ youngsters in his position

Gary Lineker has called Ryan Sessegnon one of the most exciting young full-backs in football and says it is good to see him getting a run in the Tottenham fold.

Sessegnon made his fifth consecutive start for Spurs on Tuesday as his side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship outfit Middlesbrough.

The encounter matched him up against Boro starlet Isaiah Jones to make for a battle of two talented English wing-backs.

Both pushed forward and offered their team an option from the wide areas, but it was Jones who came out the happier of the two due to Boro’s 1-0 scalp after extra time.

The match-up particularly intrigued former Tottenham striker-turned-presenter Lineker, who believes the pair are two of the most talented wide players football currently has to offer.

He also praised Sessegnon’s extended run in the Spurs side under Antonio Conte and feels the 21-year-old has earned the faith of the Italian coach.

Lineker said on Match of the Day: “Sessegnon vs Jones, probably two of the most exciting full-backs in our game.

“It’s five games consecutive that he has played. It’s good that he is getting a run in the side. Conte obviously has faith in him.”

Sessegnon’s position at Spurs has improved following the recent absence of Sergio Reguilon down the left flank.

The Spain international missed the club’s last handful of games due to COVID and has since taken up a position on the bench on his return.

Sessegnon is clearly very talented and we have been shown a glimpse into that in recent games. He’s had to battle with a handful of injuries too which haven’t helped his development, but this run in the side should give him some much-needed confidence going forward.
