Listen: Chris Sutton claims Spurs player has not been good enough this season

Former Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has called for Dele Alli not to start for England.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was included in Gareth Southgate’s 23-man squad for the UEFA Nations League finals and could face Holland tomorrow evening.

Sutton, who now works as a football pundit believes that Dele’s performances this season have not been up to standard.

The former MK Dons man has often had to operate in a deeper role for Spurs this season due to the amount of injuries that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have faced, especially in midfield with Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama all spending time on the sidelines.

However, this has been overlooked by Sutton who instead claims it is disappointing that his goals and assists tally is down and would rather see Chelsea’s Ross Barkley start the match in Portugal.
