Liverpool legend claims Harry Kane has ‘put himself in the shop window’ after City performance

Graeme Souness has claimed that Harry Kane has put himself back in the shop window following his impressive performance against Manchester City yesterday evening.

The Tottenham Hotspur forward was at the heart of his side’s remarkable 3-2 win against the Premier League frontrunners at the Etihad Stadium.

Kane was heavily linked with a move to the current champions in the summer with Pep Guardiola even admitting that Tottenham refused to enter into negotiations to sell their prize asset (Manchester Evening News).

City ended the summer window without replacing Sergio Aguero who headed to Barcelona, but last month signed River Plate forward Julian Alvarez in a deal worth around £14million (Sky Sports).

The England international remained in north London and after a slow start to the campaign by his own standards under Nuno Espírito Santo, has flourished since the arrival of Antonio Conte in November.

Kane is reported to have been amazed by how Conte has been able to transform his fitness levels, which was evident during his all-action display yesterday in Manchester (The Athletic).

Former Liverpool player Souness, who was appearing as a pundit as part of Sky Sports‘ live television coverage on their Premier League channel said after the match (19/02/22 at 19:15): “Harry Kane was fantastic. He’s put himself in the shop window again. It was a remarkable Spurs performance. I didn’t see that coming. That was a masterclass from Spurs, like a big away day in Europe. A masterclass of counter-attacking football”

Kane’s future is always going to be the subject of speculation whether we win or lose. The only thing which can dampen the transfer rumour mill is either the club winning the FA Cup this season, or securing a return to the Champions League for the first time since Mauricio Pochettino left in 2019.
