Liverpool legend suggests Kane should seek answers from Conte over his future

Graeme Souness believes that Harry Kane should seek clarity from Antonio Conte on whether the Italian is planning to remain at Tottenham Hotspur next season before deciding upon his own future.

The Mirror claimed last month that Manchester United are considering making a move for the Tottenham striker during the summer transfer window which could see him reunite with Mauricio Pochettino at Old Trafford who is said to be in contention to take over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

Kane was once again in impressive form after he helped to orchestrate Tottenham to a 5-1 victory against Newcastle United yesterday evening, despite failing to get himself on the scoresheet.

The former Liverpool player has suggested that Kane should speak to Conte about his strategy and whether he will be given funds to spend this summer, believing that the 52-year-old will not decide to stay put if he is not backed by the club.

Souness told Sky Sports‘ Main Event TV channel (3/4/22 – 18:48): “If I’m Harry, I’ll be saying to the manager ‘have you got money to spend? You will make this current group better’. The manager isn’t going to hang around here if he hasn’t got the money to spend. The manager wants to be winning trophies, league titles, Champions League, not settling for fifth or sixth.

“We don’t know what Harry and the club have agreed. Harry will be facing a dilemma at the end of the season. Tottenham are working under a good coach and will improve, if they get the right backing they’ll be a real strength going forward.”

Finishing in the top four this season will do a lot to convince both Kane and Conte to remain at Tottenham. Securing Champions League football should allow the club to invest more funds into the squad and also attract a better calibre of player, but more importantly, help to retain their two prized assets.
