Liverpool star explains what he loves about the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo has admitted that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is his favourite to play in due to the hostile atmosphere that Spurs fans create.

While everyone who comes to Tottenham’s home ground raves about the venue, it is fair to say that until this season, the stadium has perhaps not been the fortress it can be.

In fact, there was quite a toxic atmosphere at the venue towards the end of last season, with supporters often turning on the home team when things were going against the side.

However, things have changed completely since Ange Postecoglou arrived in the summer, with the Australian managing to get the Spurs fans onside due to the attacking brand of football that he has implemented.

As a result, the 62,850-capacity venue has perhaps been louder and more atmospheric this season than it has ever been since its opening nearly five years ago, with opposition teams starting to find the venue quite intimidating.

Cody Gakpo loves the atmosphere in Tottenham

That is certainly the opinion of Gakpo, who picked up on the hostility he and his Liverpool teammates experienced when they came to N17 earlier this season.

When asked to name his favourite stadium in England, he told Premier League’s official channel: “The hostile atmosphere at the Tottenham Stadium was great. You know, I like those kinds of environments.”

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is on course to becoming a fortress as it is an extremely daunting place for teams to visit, now that the fans are fully behind Postecoglou and the boys.

The design of the stadium certainly helps amplify the atmosphere as it is not a soulless bowl like many modern-day stadiums are. The acoustics of the venue and the proximity of the fans to the pitch certainly make it louder than a few other modern stadiums such as the Etihad, the Emirates and the London Stadium.
