Liverpool star gives his verdict on Spurs signing

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has approved Tottenham’s decision to sign Eredivisie star Steven Bergwijn.

The attacker completed a move to Spurs from PSV Eindhoven for a deal reported to be worth around £27million according to Football.London.

The deal moved quickly since the initial reports came out regarding Tottenham’s renewed interest in the 22-year-old last Sunday.

The winger has revealed his excitement at getting started in the Premier League in his first interview with the Champions League finalists earlier this week (Spurs official).

Van Dijk, who has played alongside Bergwijn on several occasions for the Dutch national side, believes that the winger has what it takes to be a success in North London.

The central defender is quoted by the Daily Star as saying, “Yes, he’s (Bergwijn) a great player. He has to be otherwise he wouldn’t have made the transfer.

“But it’s all about showing it on the pitch also. So he has to work hard, enjoy also the moment and progress and be patient as well.

“If that’s the case in the next six months, then it will benefit us in the Euros as well.”

The fact that Bergwijn seems to have established himself as a regular in the Dutch national side in recent months speaks volume’s about the youngster’s talent given the considerable competition for places in Ronald Koeman’s side. It looks like the Premier League should suit him as has an abundance of pace and power.
