Liverpool star praises ‘amazing’ Spurs player after World Cup display

Alisson Becker has hailed Richarlison following his performance against Serbia, remarking that the Tottenham man is indispensable to the Brazil side.

Coming into the World Cup, Richarlison was perhaps not as sharp as he would have liked to be, given that he had picked up a calf injury at the start of October that kept him out of action for nearly a month.

However, Tite gave the Spurs star the nod to start in the Selecao’s World Cup opener last Thursday and the 25-year-old repaid his manager’s faith by netting both goals in the 2-0 win.

Richarlison’s second goal, which came courtesy of a perfectly executed overhead kick, has been widely acknowledged to be the goal of the tournament so far.

The Tottenham man has been on fire in front of goal for his country over the last 12 months but Alisson pointed out that it is not just his ability to find the back of the net but also his tireless work rate off the ball that makes him a crucial part of the Selecao set up.

The Liverpool star told The Daily Mirror about Richarlison following the win over Serbia: “He’s an amazing player, really important for us.

“Both attacking-wise and defensively, he helps a lot and puts so much in on the pitch for the good of the team. I’m just really happy and so proud for him, scoring two – and one of them was such a fantastic goal. It was amazing.”

Richarlison is evidently held in high esteem by both his club and international teammates. It is clear why that is the case as the 25-year-old is extremely unselfish in the way he works off the ball, putting the need of the team ahead of his own personal ambitions – a quality that is rare among forwards.
