Lloris becomes first Spurs star to speak publicly on Conte and Nuno sacking

Hugo Lloris took part in the press conference ahead of Tottenham’s Europa Conference League match against Vitesse Arnhem this afternoon, although it was more about the hiring of Antonio Conte.

Tottenham decided to sack the Portuguese head coach after just four months in charge on Monday, replacing him with serial winner and former Chelsea man, Antonio Conte.

There has been a distinct lack of public comment or social media posting from Tottenham stars since the sacking of Nuno and hiring of Conte.

In fact, Lloris became the very first to publicly speak on both events during his press conference, claiming it was ‘sad’ to see Nuno go, but the CV Conte brings with him to the club speaks for itself.

The Spurs club captain was keen to point out that Tottenham now need the commitment and excitement from everyone in order to find the right solutions under a new manager.

On Conte, Lloris said (Football London): ” He’s the kind of manager to help all the club improve. His CV talks for itself. This week is really important for the club.

“He’s going to give a proper structure to the team. As players, we need to demand more from each other. I think it’s a great opportunity to work under one of the greatest managers of the last few years. Now is not a time for words. it’s time to work.”

On Nuno, he added: “It’s never easy to see a manager leaving a club. We have to show our respect to Nuno.

“I don’t really want to talk about the past, I’m focused on the present. Obviously, it was a sad situation as we don’t want to see this in the football club.

“Now we are focused on new days, focused on new ideas of football and we want energy from everyone at the club and we want to go together in the right direction.

“Also we need to take under consideration that it’s never easy for a new manager brought in during the season. Again, we need the commitment of everyone and the excitement of everyone. It’s a massive opportunity for us to work under that kind of manager.

“We are focused on ourselves, our performances. We weren’t pleased with our performances and tried to find the right solutions. Unfortunately, it didn’t work.

“There is ambition in the club. We also want to respond to the expectation of our fans. Football is about winning also. The best feeling is when you win. We also looking to find consistency in our performance and result.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It is rather strange that no one has posted about Nuno or Conte yet, but Hugo speaks very well here. We need commitment under the new manager or Conte will simply drop them. He will not take any nonsense or dead weight, that’s for sure.
